iLaw Crime flags up Magistrates' Court claims that are not or could be profitable

Lower and Higher standard fees have been used by the Legal Services Commission for some time to remunerate claims for Magistrates' Court work that has not exceeded the higher limit. The iLaw Crime Module includes the capability to see how near your current costs are to claiming the higher fee or if the claim is currently unprofitable because it has gone past the lower standard fee.

A key performance indicator report is included for all Crime Non Standard Fee Magistrates' Court claims and Exceptional claims for Investigations and Prison Law matters.

When payment is received, the remuneration total can be entered to show the difference and the percentage reduction of the costs claimed. From this, the period set is given a performance rating of green or red. Green indicates a good remuneration total where as red indicates that not all the work done has been profitable.

iLaw Crime shows the profitability margins on Crown Court work

The Crown Court summary report can also grouped by Court or by Fee Earner so you can produce a monthly or yearly total for individual fee earners. Just select the required Start and End date and then click the Refresh button. The report results can be sorted by individual fee earners with the costs totals being shown for each person in bold.

The iLaw Crime Module allows you to time record and claim for criminal costs for client matters at all key stages of the criminal justice process. It's always updated in time for any changes issued by the LSC.

Investigation claims are fully compliant with the police station fixed fee scheme that was introduced in January 2008. Magistrates' Court claims made on the CDS6 and CDS7 forms can be made under the standard and non-standard fee scheme or as a designated area fee for offices and courts in urban areas. The iLaw Crime module can make claiming for work done simple for other crime costs claims. The Time Recording screen allows Magistrates' Court work to be claimed as AWOL, Deferred Sentence, and Court Duty matters.

A CDS11 can be produced at any time with time recording on file. A CDS6 SPOCC file is submitted for each reporting month when the work is billed.

Crown Court claims conform to the new Litigators Graduated Fee Scheme introduced in January 2008. You also have the option to include our Graduated Fee billing software, GradFees within the Crime Billing options.

The totals for claims raised are posted into the iLaw Accounts software with an invoice date set by you. These payments can be set off against standard monthly payment money which is either posted automatically or manually.
