Legal Remote Working

Setting up as a Remote Worker

For many legal sector workers, the facility to work away from the office is becoming an essential part of their working life. Whether remote working is used to work while attending clients at court or whether it is part of a more permanent arrangement working from home, being away from the office does not stop your access to your office computer system. A home PC or laptop can allow you to work on the office case or practice management system, Intranet or Internet resources from another location.

If remote office access is something you need to implement for yourself or someone in the office you will need to make some decisions to determine the type of remote working accessibility you'll end up with. There are five methods that we will look at. Which method you choose is determined by four considerations.
  1. Time and Cost.
How much time and money you want to spend on this. Isn't this the case with so much in life.
  2. How much technical knowledge you have.
Another key consideration is how much help you'll need with the technical aspects of setting this up. There are also some technical issues that will affect whether you want to work on the move, from a static location such as your home or both. There is a cost implication if you want to outsource this.
  3. The type of remote working.
    Are you looking for:<
    1. Occasional access for one remote worker
    2. Permanent access for one remote worker
    3. Occasional and Permanent access for one multiple workers
    4. Remote workers 'on the move'
  4. Environmental and office cost considerations.
Consider how many machines you want running at the same time and for how long. How much office space will you still need to devote to remote workers?
Each consideration is rated for the method discussed by three stars. Three gold stars mean it has the best suitability.
